This yellow sphene with a slight hint of green from Madagascar is a beautiful gem with no inclusions.

This is a standard oval with a slightly smaller table and a Gira cut with flower cuts. The outstanding transparency, stone quality and cut allow it to overflow with colorful fire, which is unique to highly dispersed sphene, even without shining a light on it. (The photo does not show the entire stone.)

There is a twin line indicating where the crystals have joined together about halfway between the girdle and culet on the pavilion side, and there are faint growth lines all over the stone.

When viewed through a magnifying glass, you can see doubling, which is the result of the birefringence property of sphene, where the luster and sparkle appear doubled.

There are a few places where lines appear due to the nature of the piece, which are difficult to detect even with a magnifying glass, but these are nothing to be concerned about.

Sphene, whose sparkle varies greatly depending on the cut and luster, is one of GTJ's specialties, so we hope you will enjoy its colorful, dazzling sparkle in your hands.
