A quiet, deep grey Burmese spinel with a subtle hint of blue and green.

This piece was created by carefully extracting only the most beautiful parts and shaping them into a new asymmetrical cut called "Flame Flame," reminiscent of fire.

At GemTreeJapan, we generally aim to create pieces that maximize the inherent beauty of the crystal by cutting away as little of the stone as possible.

As a result of cutting this spinel while avoiding inclusions that would be defects, an asymmetrical shape naturally emerged.

The GemTreeJapan philosophy is reflected in the fact that it was not intentionally distorted, but rather "a shape completed as a result of conforming to the stone."

While the initial Flame Flame pieces featured a flower cut on the pavilion side and a step cut on the crown side, this new version features a flower cut on both sides.

Achieving a beautiful flower cut across the entire surface under the challenging condition of asymmetry requires high technical skill, but main cutter Piachan of GTJ masterfully completed it with the precision only possible with hand-cutting.

In addition to the delicate and three-dimensional flower cut on the pavilion side, the crown side was designed with a table as small as possible, maximizing the number of facets. This allows the hard, metallic sparkle unique to spinel, derived from its single refraction, to spread subtly across the entire surface, with colorful fire appearing in places.

While grey spinel tends to have purple or violet hues, this piece has a more neutral color with a subtle mix of blue and green, making it a highly valuable stone among grey spinels.

The proportions are also solid and thick, giving it a visual presence characteristic of thicker stones.

Scattered transparent inclusions (presumed to be apatite) can be observed, but none are discernible to the naked eye, and overall it is a beautiful crystal with very high transparency.

Under UV light, a faint reddish fluorescence can also be observed.

The individuality of the shape, the perfection of the flower cut, the rare neutral grey hue, the expression of the inclusions—

This single stone embodies GemTreeJapan's philosophy of "respecting the stone while bringing out its maximum beauty" as a work of art.
