This is a pyralspite, which is a mixed type of three red-toned garnets.
Since it's a 3-type mixed stone, it's labeled "C.Ch.Pyralspite Garnet" on the case, but it's essentially Malaya garnet.
It is rich in needle inclusions, which are common in specimens from Tanzania or Bekily, Madagascar, making it particularly representative of its origin.
Such inclusions are often seen in what the market calls Dragon Garnet.
While needle-like inclusions are not exclusive to Dragon Garnet, swirling needle-like inclusions like these are common in Dragon Garnet.
Incidentally, this color-change garnet showed a faint, gentle fluorescence under a UV light that cuts visible light.
Since Dragon Garnet also requires a certain intensity of fluorescence, and while this one does fluoresce, it's borderline whether it falls within the definition of Dragon Garnet.
Because there is a very slight green tint in its base color, it is offered as "Color Change Garnet/Pyralspite" rather than Malaya Garnet.
If we were to only consider Malaya garnet's value assessment criteria, darker and more vivid colors with fewer inclusions would be higher, but this stone is a "Dragon Garnet in spirit," making it "a uniquely interesting Malaya with a beautiful cut, characteristic of GemTreeJapan."
Regarding the color change, a hint of red can be seen in its brilliance as soon as even a little warm light hits it, so the change under a penlight can be said to be quite strong.
