This star sapphire comes from Yen Bai in northern Vietnam and is a cabochon on one side and faceted on the other.

The purplish pink crystals contain silk inclusions that fold diagonally, and when light is shone on them, a bold, spectacular star appears.

The star overlaps with the silk inclusions and is difficult to see in photos, so we recommend that you watch the video.

The reverse side of a typical star sapphire cabochon is usually bumpy and unpolished, but as this is a masterpiece by the founder of GTJ, it is faceted and can be enjoyed as a reversible piece.

The facets also have silk running in various directions, which is very tasteful, and the neat cut has resulted in an interesting and beautiful star sapphire that is unlike any other.
