Among the many types of stones that are difficult to cut, kyanite is the first to come to mind.

Kyanite has two different hardness levels depending on the direction of the crystal. It has the property of cleaving perfectly parallel to the broad surface of the raw stone in the photo, with a hardness of 4 in this parallel direction, and the property of cleaving in two perpendicular directions with an unclear cleavage, with a hardness of 7.5. Since it has two hardness levels (4 and 7.5) depending on the cleavage direction, it is also called a two-hard stone.

The original stone was a larger oval, but we asked a seasoned veteran cutter, known as the "Karaoke Uncle," to cut it for us, but unfortunately the end result was not one we were satisfied with.

Afterwards, Piacchan, the GTJ main cutter, tried but was unsuccessful, so it remained untouched and he tried again this time and successfully completed it.

This is a very beautiful royal blue stone, and although it has diagonally layered inclusions throughout, it has excellent transparency and emits a beautiful sparkle.

Although there are a few inclusions visible near the culet, they are minimally contained and the finish is excellent with no major flaws noticeable to the naked eye.

Please enjoy the beauty of this rare, beautifully cut kyanite in your hands.
